Lisa Sherwood was held in a flooded swamp cellar by cannibals who tortured their prisoners, and she pulled free of her shackles to daub ritual symbols in blood on the floor. Those marks became the Blackened Catalyst, and her totems still carry Hex: Ruin and Hex: Devour Hope.

Vlad Tepes chased the Crimson Stone to cheat death after losing the woman he loved, and sealed his own soul inside it; Trevor Belmont put him down in 1476 with the Vampire Killer. Vampiric Shift moves him between vampire, wolf and bat forms, each with its own way of ending a chase.

Quentin Smith studied lucid dreaming to fight Freddy Krueger on his own ground, and set a trap with paint thinner at Badham Preschool. Wake Up! and Vigil are both about staying awake longer than the thing hunting you.

Coal Tower stored the coal that fed the foundry on the MacMillan Estate. Its roof is split wide open, which suggests an explosion nobody on the estate ever wrote down.
